August at the Innovation Hub: A Month of Growth, Creativity, and Community
A Summer of Learning and Connection
In August the Innovation Hub continued to be a thriving hub of creativity, collaboration, and professional development. This month, we witnessed a variety of exciting initiatives, from pre-apprenticeship training to student presentations and community-focused events.
Pre-Apprenticeship Training: Equipping students with necessary professional skills
The Innovation Hub was proud to host St. Lawrence College’s Pre-Apprenticeship program, which concluded on August 13th. Under the guidance of Sam Cowan, who both facilitated and planned the program, students delved into interview techniques, honed their professional communication abilities, and gained valuable insights into industry best practices.
The program featured various hands-on activities, including interview simulations, 1 on 1 mentorship, and practice examples. Students had the chance to practice their skills in a supportive and encouraging environment, building confidence and further preparing them for their career endeavours.
Student Presentation Showcases Innovation and Technical Expertise
A group of students from the Technological University of Riviera Maya, led by the Hub’s very own Cesar Hernandez, a professor at the university, recently presented their impressive project. A digital twin of their classroom, auditorium, and library. Initially, the students were tasked with recreating their classroom, however, their passion for 3D modelling led them to expand their project. The students went on to create detailed replicas of the campus library and auditorium.
The students spent countless hours over their 4-month semester meticulously crafting each element of their digital twins, ensuring that they accurately represented the physical spaces. Their project showcased not only their technical skills but also their creativity and attention to detail. To learn more about this incredible project you can read about it here!
Chill Zone: A New Team, A Successful Debut
The Innovation Hub was thrilled to welcome Enactus SLC’s Chill Zone event on August 16th, an initiative led by a new dedicated team of students. This inaugural event offered a delightful opportunity for participants to unwind, connect, and engage in creative activities.
Attendees had the chance to learn the art of bracelet making, fostering their creativity and fine motor skills. A fun connection game added a playful element to the event, encouraging participants to interact and get to know each other, building relationships. We also participated in a guided muscle relaxation activity, increasing the tranquillity that the event provided. Footprint joined in on the chill vibes, guiding participants in the creation of origami plants. This activity not only promoted creativity but also fostered a deeper connection with nature.
Looking Forward to a Brighter Future
As we look back on August, we are inspired by the talent, dedication, and innovation demonstrated by our community members. From the aspiring professionals in our Pre-Apprenticeship program to the creative minds behind the Chill Zone event, the Innovation Hub continues to be a catalyst for positive change.
We invite students and faculty alike to collaborate with us on future projects and initiatives. Together, we can create a more vibrant and innovative community.
